                  Strategic Leadership  Development Program for 2021                                               


    Are you ready for a faster path to leadership in Human Resources or your professional employment organization? Do you have the ability and desire to be a strategic leader? If so, we have the opportunity for you!

    SHRM Georgia State Council

    The SHRM Georgia State Council serves as the liaison between the State Chapters and  SHRM National while promoting the benefits of SHRM. Through visits, meetings, and ongoing interactions with chapters, the State Council’s responsibility is to assess needs, adopt programs, and provide information to promote the success of local chapters. The State Council also coordinates state and national legislative initiatives specifically as they relate to the human resource profession.

    Our new “Leadership SHRM Georgia” with its inaugural  “Leadership Development Program” is designed to give talented Human Resource professionals the tools, support and opportunities they need to succeed. The program is a strategic career development component of a Succession Planning and Volunteer Leader development program designed to attract, develop, and retain strategic leaders. Whether you are a recent past,  current or future Human Resources leader, SHRM Georgia State Council has something to offer you, including a great Volunteer Leader career. Upon successful completion of this SLDP program, you will have the opportunity to be participate in SHRM Georgia State Council’s annual Succession Planning process, used to identify Volunteer Leaders of tomorrow.

    Our Leadership SHRM Georgia program is designed to attract, build, and retain exceptional leadership talent for our dynamic State Council, provide a world-class program with high expectations for future leadership talent and to groom our next generation of Volunteer leaders.

    Program Overview

    The program is a challenging eight-month  program, from February through September, that includes focus on developing strong Volunteer leadership talent. All programs will be taught by subject matter experts. Development is focused in the areas of:

    • Strategic Leadership: Thinking, Planning, and Implementation, Leadership Style Assessment, Competency Identification, Assessment and Development planning
    •  Business Acumen:  Understanding an organization’s operations and functions, as well as the industry and competitive environment in which the organization operates
    •  Diversity and Inclusion
    •  Change Management: Methods and protocols used to implement change within both  internal and external organizational processes, while supporting others
    •  Coaching and Mentoring and Succession Planning.  

    The program will provide you with the opportunity to gain broad exposure to our many Core Leadership Areas, Governance, and Chapter management tools and information.

    Participants will be exposed to challenging information and concepts that will provide them the opportunity to be a more strategic business partner, working with various levels of management. The SLDP offers a coaching and mentoring program along with formal and hands-on leadership training.

    Composed of a virtual classroom training, coaching, and  mentoring, the Strategic Leadership Development Program (SLDP) will offer leadership training to chapter and state council leaders  to include: Current Chapter Presidents, Presidents-Elect, Secretaries, Treasurers, most recent (2020) Past- Presidents, State Council Director, Director-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, District Directors, District Director At-Large, and Core Leadership Area (CLA) Directors Aspiring Chapter Leaders who are members of a local chapter are welcome to apply as well as SHRM National members who are not affiliated with a local chapter.  Emerging Professionals (student chapter members & potential future chapter members) are also encourage to apply for Leadership SHRM Georgia.

    Both coaching and  mentoring portions of the SLDP will match future leaders with coaches and mentors drawn from current State Council Leadership, allowing each program participant to work with his/her coach or mentor on their  development and volunteer leadership plans and enable participants to observe and practice the leadership skills presented during the classroom portion of the SLDP.

    Your Registration includes:

    •   Timely topics covering strategic leadership skills and competencies.
    •  Motivational speakers specializing in leadership development.
    •  Opportunity to work with a Coach and/or Mentor.
    •  Professional Development Credits (PDCs).
    •  Opportunity to participate in Annual Succession Planning Process for Future Leadership Opportunities

    Additional Event Information:

    All applicants must submit a recent resume outlining current and previous volunteer leadership positions and responsibilities. This information will be used, along with successful completion of the leadership and development training program, for the State Council’s new Succession Planning process.

    All applicants must complete a Written Application Assignment. Responses must be typed and should not exceed 600 words (All three responses)

    1. Why do you want to participate in the Leadership Development program? How do you hope to benefit from it?

    2. Discuss the qualities or characteristics of a good leader. What personal qualities do you possess that would make you a good leader? What leadership areas do you feel you need to develop to enhance your leadership acumen?

    3. Describe a problem which your chapter, state council or organization faced this past year. Discuss the solutions that were developed and evaluate the outcome of the solutions implemented. If you were not the leader of the chapter, state council or organization, how would you have handled the situation? If you were the leader, describe how you handled the situation.
